The largest shopping center on the island is called ‘Mega Plaza’, located in French Harbor. This a fairly sizable horseshoe shaped plaza that has many of your shopping needs or wants. Four of the banks have locations there and, although you would not recognize store names, there several clothing stores, ladies shops for purses and accessories. Both of the Cell phone companies, Claro & Tigo are located there if you wish to obtain a SIM card for while you are here along with a TIGO Business office for internet and support. The SIM cards would work in most cellphones that are unlocked for local calls and outgoing calls to the U.S. I use an unlocked IPhone here then switch it out to an AT& T when I visit the states. There also are four restaurants, a store that sells a/c units, jewelry stores and beauty and barber shops. The best dentist on the island is located in Mega Plaza and the island’s kidney dialysis location if you have that need. There is a large (on island standards), department store that has appliances, TV’s, computers, furniture and home goods called Lady Lee along with a sizeable grocery store. The best grocery stores on the island are called ‘Eldon’s’ and they have two Coxen Hole locations and one in French Harbor down the road from the ‘Mega Plaza’. If you visit Eldon’s you will experience something similar to what you may have at home, for example a Winn Dixie, Publix or H.E. Butt.
Of course there are many tourism based shops in many locations on the island like West End but the series of posts to this page has been more devoted to everyday living. Lumber yards, ACE Hardware, Sherwin Williams are all here also.
