Sunday October 16th is the 10th Annual Sundae by the Sea beach party , between 1 -5pm. Food, drinks, laughter, entertainment, silent and live auctions, all to benefit Clinica Esperanza. Buy your tickets in advance ($30) at one of those fine establishment: Clinica Esperanza, Java Wine, Nidia Party for 4 (Coxen Hole) and Bulk Gourmet. Tickets will also be available at the door for $35. Come and join us for a fun afternoon! The event is being held at The Beach Club (San Simon) in West Bay.
-“Pies Bonitos” – Handmade Sandals
Now located next to the ReMax office in the West Bay Mall.
They design sandals in Roatan that are simple, comfortable, and durable. Their shoes are made for island living. Each sandal is hand crafted and designed to last with genuine Honduran leather and comfortable soles. The sandals are then hand beaded with love by Honduran mothers.
They started selling the sandals in a kiosk on West Bay Beach, online, and in the cruise port. When a space available in West Bay Mall, they moved the beach location into the mall. Today, they sell both wholesale and retail and ship the sandals worldwide. Most orders are sent to the United States, Canada, and Germany. The sandals can be custom beaded at the West Bay Mall location. We searched a few years to find the artisans and leather within Honduras to produce a quality product that we are proud to call “Pies Bonitos”. In the Spanish language “Pies Bonitos” means “Beautiful Feet”. Through the sale of hand crafted, quality leather sandals, “Pies Bonitos” is helping artisans earn a living wage to feed their families. “Pies Bonitos” goal is to empower talented artisans of Honduras, allowing them to shape their future by way of their extraordinary work.

-Roatan Extreme
Roatan Extreme is one of the largest sporting events the island hosts all year. Extreme sports is a big deal world wide and the proceeds go to the local Public hospital and is for a great cause. If you are going to be on the island you should mark Sunday, October 23rd on your calendar and watch or participate if you have the inclination. LA PICCOLA – Utila’s only Italian Restaurant La Piccola and previously operated by Italian Katie Vigolo has moved location from the second floor above Billy & Laura Bodden’s supermarket to the Tropical Sunset Hotel, over the bridge and at ‘The Point’ in Utila. The second floor location above Billy & Laura Bodden’s supermarket/carniceria is currently being offered for lease/rent. Arguably this location is only suitable for a restaurant. Lease price, terms and conditions are unknown at this time.

-High Tech Surveys hit the island-
I have an exciting new change to tell you about. In 2004 a topographic/engineering company from the mainland joined forces with a local company to taking the survey & topography technology on the island from the analog to digital world. With the new technology and software, the accuracy of surveys improved tenfold. This Island company, ADS Consulting, focused on complex surveys for large projects and contested properties. Other surveyors had to invest in the new technologies or get left in the dust. Now 12 years later, this team has done it again. By moving to GPS and GNSS technology they have increased the resolution of the surveys from 1 inch to 1/16 of an inch. This is a huge improvement that is especially important in detailing large lots and valuable waterfront property. They also have implemented the use of drones to speed up the work. On nearly flat land the drone will perform the same work in 10% of the time. The drones were recently used to do the topographic plans to increase the length of the runway here on Roatan. I have worked with Dan Taylor, the owner of ADS Consulting for the last 10 years and his level of attention to detail is unsurpassed.
