Legal Advice

Larry SchlesserIsland News

If you are purchasing property in the Bay islands, no attorney there (wherever ‘there’ is), will be able to advise you. If you are running a purchase past your attorney ‘there’ or running it by your accountant ‘there’, you have a 99.9% chance of getting a ‘blank stare’.

Some who buy here wish to use their professionals ‘there’ to advise. The reality of it is there really do not have a clue. Here is not there. It pretty much is that simple.

A different country with different laws and different many things. That said, you will need an attorney or notary here to ‘close’ on a property here and like there they come in all different levels of expertise. Make sure when you are purchasing here you do not have the local taxi driver ‘fix you up’ with his cousin or friend. There are attorneys here who specialize in real estate and that is the direction you need to go.

When you get to your property closing you will be amazed at how simple and easy it is. In North America you can easily experience 10 pages of magnify glass sized print with the Agents, Brokers, clients, mortgage companies and title company. Here you have a page and a half of text that is all common sense and straight forward that you sign and place next to your signature your finger print.

Use your professional REALTOR (hopefully at RE/MAX of course) and close with a professional real estate focused attorney here in country.
