Honduran Attorney – Property Titles/Residency
Having a quality Honduran Attorney is a very important part of this process. Property Titles and Residency is something your Attorney here should specialize in. Here, unlike there, attorneys can be more like general practitioners versus one that is a specialist in their field of practice. Some may do Criminal, Divorce, Litigation and still wish you to do your real estate. I would suggest you get a name of an attorney that handles Real Estate & Residency only. Make sure when you make your choice that the Honduran Attorney you pick to do you property closing specializes in realestate. (Your REALTOR can provide choices for you to pick from if you wish them to).Although there are exceptions many that may live and practice on the mainland of Honduras versus those who practice here in the Bay Islands, may not be a wise choice. The Bay Islands has different laws especially when it comes to taxes in this country.
Overall each property has a minimum of three documents that are needed. (And need to match), previous to your closing and obtaining title to your property of choice. (Sometimes more depending on what method is used in the purchase). Your RE/MAX office will act as your liaison with your Honduran-Attorney to make sure all documentation is in order previous to transfer of ownership, including a followup on the title check.

There also are several types of residency that one can choose from when deciding to relocate full-time or part time. Your Honduran-Attorney will be happy to discuss these options with you. This is NOT citizenship, it is a legal ability to live in this country while maintaining your citizenship of the country you were born in. If you are a foreigner you will need to obtain a residency if you wish to spend more time here than a normal vacation or if you wish to open a business, work or start a new life in this country that produces income.
