As long as I have been here (almost 15 years now), it has always been a bit difficult to travel to our neighboring island Utila. It usually meant a trip to LaCeiba first (plane or ferry), the a trip to Utila itself and then the reverse on the way back.
Things are changing. CM Airlines offers a ‘day trip’ there now on Saturdays leaving Roatan at 8 am and returning from Utila at 5 pm. For those curious about Utila it is a nice way to spend a day investigating our little neighbor. Also, SOSA Airlines goes there two days a week and and back to Roatan two different days so you can easily stay as long or short as you wish.
Utila is a different world than Roatan. The narrow roads are used for 4 wheelers, motorcycles, and local ‘tuk-tuks’ (three wheeled taxis). An enchanting place stuck in the 60’s someplace, with no one in a hurry and tranquility the ultimate goal.
