Well we closed the books on 2017 and it really ended up to be a good year, in fact the best year we as an industry have had for 10 years. We have had more interest, more sales, more traffic and it seems that more people know where we are.
By the numbers there were more homes sold in 2017 than in 2016 with the median price increasing by 8.9% and the median price on listings up by 7%. It seems people feel better about where they are and something that seems to be more than just a trend. We seem to have more people that are actually relocating to the Bay Islands obtaining permanent residency (not citizenship ), and starting life anew.
We are also seeing more people building their own homes on parcels of land with the median vacant property sold up by 15.9% and the median and the median Listing price increasing by 19.5%.
Overall there still is a shortage of homes on the market although a couple of small developers have started up some spec homes. Land on the other hand….. there is ample supply, still an oversupply actually and great bargains can be found. Some are buying those up for present of future build out or speculation.
Overall it seems that more people are finding us and that of course is good for the island economically. For the average Buyer, it seems we are at the beginning of positive upward movement.

It seems the local real estate association has decided they will not to or have at least postponed it for time being. We here at RE/MAX decided to do our own. It hit the streets last week and we will distribute thousands of copies that are on display in many locations on the island. I do have a digital copy for anyone that wishes one.
